The largest spammer friendly datacenter run by McColo was shut down on the order of FCC. Immediate drop of 40% in worldwide spam email traffic was apparent. Although representative of McColo were able to briefly acquire backup connection, new provider was cooperating and severed connection once again. Unfortunately this gave spammers chance to move server software to other locations including Russia and China.

On Tuesday, an engineer for XCalibre accidentally deleted cloud definitions causing widespread outage in FlexiScale cloud service platform. The cloud went live without backup system so until additional datacenter is built, this problem still may happen. Fortunately XCalibre was able to recover the cloud definitions and did not lose customer data.

Netflix service outage lasting three days was result of severe technical issues with shipping system as per the company. Considering that Netflix did not ship any DVDs from any of their shipping centers, the most likely culprit is software update failure. Even large companies experience unreliable software from time to time and a good failback plan is required to secure continued operations.
